AuthorsWiki team thanks author Ramya Kapadia from USA, Tennessee for giving his valuable time for the interview. Let us tell you that recently a book written by the author ‘Taikamaa & The Twin Stars’ has been published. The author shared his experiences and some special moments with our team in the interview. We hope readers will enjoy this exclusive interview with the author.

AuthorsWiki : Do you briefly introduce yourself in your own words?

Ramya Kapadia : I am a Knoxville, TN-based multi-disciplinary artist specializing in Bharatanatyam & Carnatic voice (codified dance & music forms from South Indian), Warli tribal art and children’s fiction.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?

Ramya Kapadia : I am a choreographer and a composer. I produce my own works and also create works for other companies. I also teach these forms privately in my studio and am Teaching Artist with the United Arts Council, NC and the Tennessee Arts Commission, TN. Teaching helps me integrate my training in Medical Physics and Neuroscience with my arts practice.

AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about the your first book?

Ramya Kapadia : I have always dreamed about writing books. For several years though, dance and music became my primary forms of expression. When my daughter, who has just as vivid an imagination as I, was about to turn ten, I thought that a story would be a beautiful gift for her. The “story”quickly turned into several chapters! This first book – Taikamaa and the Twin Stars is about six children who lived in a utopia called Taikamaa with their families. Their rather idyllic lives are changed when they stumble upon a path that leads to a neighboring land. The mini-adventures that they have set up what is to follow in Book 2!

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?

Ramya Kapadia : At this point, Taikamaa and the Twin Stars is the only one I have published. Book 2 is in the works.

AuthorsWiki : Where did you get inspiration for book publishing?

Ramya Kapadia : As a first time author, I knew that I had a ways to go before I could think of approaching big publishing houses. Upon further exploration, I stumbled upon self-publishing and used BookBaby to publish my book.

AuthorsWiki : How do you manage time to write a book?

Ramya Kapadia : It is not easy to find the time! But I try to dedicate an hour or two everyday to put some thoughts down. Having a deadline helps!

AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method, in which you do the most writing?

Ramya Kapadia : I suppose my writing method can be called Narrative. I often “see” the story play out like a movie in my head. Once the sequence of events is clear, I go back to tweak the imagery and the emotion in the story. Oftentimes, this happens organically.

AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing and how did your interest in writing begin?

Ramya Kapadia : My interest in writing began at a very early age – my earliest memory of writing something is from when I was six. I loved (and still do) writing letters to my grand parents and cousins. For content, I would simply describe my day and try to make that as interesting as possible, or try to use a new word that I had learnt in school. Over time, my writing became focused towards any poetry that was needed to support my dance/music work and in school, this further changed to grant/thesis/journal writing. Writing Taikamaa rekindled my passion for writing fictional stories.

AuthorsWiki : Special achievement in your life, which you would like to share with us and your readers too?

Ramya Kapadia : I won the Women of Inspiration Award for Arts and Entertainment in North America in 2023. It was an incredible honor to be among so many highly influential women. What was even more special was the number of people who believed in me enough to recommend me for the award in the first place – chief of them being my friend and publicist – Tracy Lamourie.

AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?

Ramya Kapadia : Yes. Book 2 in the Taikamaa series is in the works.

AuthorsWiki : Want to give a message to your readers and fans?

Ramya Kapadia : Do not let life dry up your imagination. Make a little time for yourself to simply observe and take in the world around you. Try to carve out a little time each day to fulfill your dreams!

AuthorsWiki : Every writer has his own Ideal, do you also have an Ideal writer? And your favorite books that you will always want to read?

Ramya Kapadia : I have a few – mainly the ones whose works I read growing up. Enid Blyton, Agatha Christie and now several Indian authors who write historical fiction. Kane and Abel by Jeffery Archer is one of the many books I would keep going back to!

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies, which you like to do in your free time?

Ramya Kapadia : I am fortunate that my “work” is what constitutes a hobby for most! That being said, outside of all my work in the arts (and of course taking care of my family), I love gardening and hiking and try to spend as much time outdoors as possible!

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world even in future?

Ramya Kapadia : Yes absolutely!
