AuthorsWiki : Do you briefly introduce yourself in your own words?

Siobhan Chirico : I am a registered psychotherapist who specializes in helping children and families. I work in private practice and teach Self-Regulated Learning at the Faculty of Education, Wilfrid Laurier University. I recently published a guided picture book for parents, caregivers, and educators. The book offers specific things to THINK, DO, and SAY to create and maintain a peaceful space—even when things get challenging.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?

Siobhan Chirico : Registered Psychotherapist

AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about the your first book?

Siobhan Chirico : Relationships with kids are dynamic. There are times of calm, joy, and beauty, and then there are times…when they throw their tablet at the wall!

‘Climbing Crisis Mountain: A Guided Picture Book for Managing Meltdowns and Challenging Behaviour’ is a digestible, illustrated, step-by-step guide for parents who are struggling to manage meltdowns. It summarizes years of neuroscience and behavioural psychology into an accessible and easy-to-use guide. Colour-coded for ease of reading, the book offers in-the-moment thoughts, language, and behaviours to support your child…starting today!

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?

Siobhan Chirico : The strategies in this book are universally applicable and can help any parent, caregiver, or educator with what to think, say, and do when things get tough for kids. By giving kids the tools they need to express when they’re in crisis, you will learn how to guide your child back down the mountain to a peaceful state—even when the tablet hits the fan.

AuthorsWiki : Where did you get inspiration for book publishing?

Siobhan Chirico : Working with children and families in crisis is a true privilege. I am in awe of the resilience, grace, and love I witness daily in my work. I also know many constraints exist for families seeking help and support in challenging times. I began writing a book as a resource to support my clients, and it has grown into a book that is truly accessible to all families. We all face challenges in our parenting. This guided picture book is designed to be a resource during tough times for kids. It can be used again and again to help guide parents through challenging times, meltdowns and tantrums.

AuthorsWiki : How do you manage time to write a book?

Siobhan Chirico : It can be difficult and my advice is… start. Just put your pen on paper or your fingers on the keyboard. If you are excited about something and want to share it, start writing.

AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method, in which you do the most writing?

Siobhan Chirico : Surround yourself with trustworthy, smart people who can honestly and compassionately offer feedback. The first step is the hardest.

AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing and how did your interest in writing begin?

Siobhan Chirico : It’s a long process for me. For this book, the process started when I noticed patterns of concern from several families. Disrupted family life takes a massive toll on people. I reflected on client notes and realized some pieces of education seemed almost universal—every kid has a tantrum at some point! So, I began to compile the ideas. I worked with some of my clients—the kids, in particular- and gained their insight into the most essential ideas. Kids are fantastic; they don’t hold back! The guidance in the book comes from neuroscience, behavioural science and real families.

AuthorsWiki : Special achievement in your life, which you would like to share with us and your readers too?

Siobhan Chirico : My greatest achievement is learning that I always have more to learn! I strive to stay curious and engaged!

AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?

Siobhan Chirico : Yes, I have a few more ideas for books that can bring psycho-education easy to read and accessible for all.

AuthorsWiki : Want to give a message to your readers and fans?

Siobhan Chirico : I love feedback! Please share your ideas, questions or wonderings with me anytime.

AuthorsWiki : Every writer has his own Ideal, do you also have an Ideal writer? And your favorite books that you will always want to read?

Siobhan Chirico : I love to read. I usually have one fiction and one nonfiction book on the go. I love to read Lisa Genova and Liane Moriarity. For nonfiction, I love to read about psychology and human behaviour. Brene Brown and Gabor Mate are some of my favourites. My favourite book is The Book of Forgiving by Desmond Tutu and his daughter Mpho Tutu- I read it at least once a year.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies, which you like to do in your free time?

Siobhan Chirico : Spending time with my family and friends. I love to cook and hike in nature.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world even in future?

Siobhan Chirico : Yes
