AuthorsWiki : Do you briefly introduce yourself in your own words?
Lori J Thompson : Hi, my name is Lori J and I am retired. I was born in Vancouver BC Canada and raised in White Rock/Crescent Beach BC. I married a New Zealander and moved to New Zealand in 1980, I had 5 children. I lost my third child to SIDS, he was 61/2 months old. I went on to have 2 more children. In the time I was in New Zealand I lived in a few places and settled in a small town of Rotorua. During that time I homeschooled my 4 children on a 10 acre hobby farm and ran a B&B. (that was fun!!!) After the children were in their older teens I decided to open a preschool in Rotorua.
After a few years of running the preschool I went back to study for my ticket in E.C.E. I was 50 years of age. Sadly I sold the preschool after 14 or so years to look after my health. I am cancer free, have been for 10 years now…yay. I returned to my homeland (with an accent) in 2017 (by myself..oh happy days :). I now live in the Okanagan of BC Canada and enjoy living…
AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?
Lori J Thompson : I am retired. I have loads of time on my hands to write.
AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about the your first book?
Lori J Thompson : Squeak The Little Grey Squirrel is my pride and joy!!! Squeak is a cute little grey squirrel with a bushy tail. He is full of mischief and always making a mess on Great Gramma’s outdoor table and porch. He lives up a tall tree in Great Gramma’s yard. Her great grandchildren comes over from New Zealand for a visit and discovers Squeak. They learn about Squeaks antics and he make the children laugh. Great Gramma seems to not like Squeak but in the end the children learn that Great Gramma really does love Squeak…..
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?
Lori J Thompson : I have published 2 storybooks and a coloring book….so far. The firstbook is Squeak The Little Grey Squeak. The second is Squeak meets new friends and a coloring book of the first story. I am working on an audio version of the first storybook.
AuthorsWiki : Where did you get inspiration for book publishing?
Lori J Thompson : In New Zealand the preschool teachers are required to document the children’s learning in story form. I learned quite quickly I had a knack for writing. I have had lots of practice in 14 years. I never though in a million years I would have published a book, let alone 2 and a coloring book as well..
When I returned to BC I lived with my Brother and Sister-in-law. I started to write about the Squirrels running about the back yard. Then watching the grandchildren of mine playing and running around with the squirrels in my Mum’s yard. I let my SIL read what I had and she encouraged me to continue writing my story. She was the one that told me my story was good enough to be published.
AuthorsWiki : How do you manage time to write a book?
Lori J Thompson : Being retired I have all the time in the world, lol….I find in the morning is the best time for me.
AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method, in which you do the most writing?
Lori J Thompson : Favorite writing style? I write in a creative, imagery and whimsical way.
AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing and how did your interest in writing begin?
Lori J Thompson : As I said earlier Preschool was the start. It is only since coming back to BC I was interested to write a storybook. It was an outlet for me through the first 2 years. I was in therapy and was encouraged to write in a journal. I found that hard…I didn’t know where to start in my journaling. The funny antics of the squirrels in my brothers back yard seemed to be the topic in my journal…. the story of Squeak was born.
AuthorsWiki : Special achievement in your life, which you would like to share with us and your readers too?
Lori J Thompson : Stepping out of my abusive marriage in New Zealand was the hardest thing I have ever done!!! To me that is the greatest achievement in my life. This gave me the opportunity to follow my passions. Writing and publishing storybooks is my second greatest achievement. I am very proud of what I have accomplished in 6 years.
AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?
Lori J Thompson : I have plans to write the third story about Squeak. I want to follow up with a coloring book of each storybook. I have 2 storybooks and 1 coloring book under my belt so far.
AuthorsWiki : Want to give a message to your readers and fans?
Lori J Thompson : Thank you for the encouragement to carry on in my story writing. Thank you for your support. I really do appreciate this.
AuthorsWiki : Every writer has his own Ideal, do you also have an Ideal writer? And your favorite books that you will always want to read?
Lori J Thompson : A.A. Milne, I love to read to the children. I get just as much enjoyment as the children. Beatrix Potter is another. I also like to read self help books, Jordan Peterson ’12 rules for life’ very interesting point of view. Christiane Northrup, M.D. ‘Goddesses never age’. Then books based on true facts like Saroo Brierley, ‘Lion’ and Molly Bloom ‘Molly’s game are a couple.
AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies, which you like to do in your free time?
Lori J Thompson : In the winter I ski, snowshoe and frolic in the snow…lol. The rest of the time I go for walks, hikes up rocks, swim, sunbath, bike ride. Love to go shopping….
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world even in future?
Lori J Thompson : Yes, I have plans to publish 3 more books as well as audio for each one and a coloring book for each one.
