AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?
Lailo Lema : I am currently enrolled as a college student studying for my Bachelor’s in English – Professional Communication and Journalism. So far I am enjoying my studies and look forward to progressing in my publishing career.
AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about your first book.
Lailo Lema : The first book I wrote, I’d Keep Her Bound’ was an erotic thriller. It’s quite taboo and ranked number one for graphic content on wattpad. I was very proud of that moment and people seemed to eat it up. Many people loved that story.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?
Lailo Lema : Right now I have two short stories available to read, ‘Kissing a Streetwalker’ a paranormal romance about a girl who moves to a new city and gets stalked by a streetwalker. My other work, ‘Off’ follows a lady who just wants to feel loved, and what her partner is willing to do to prove his love is real. It’s a brutal horror story about love and madness.
AuthorsWiki : Where did you get the inspiration for publishing books?
Lailo Lema : I was inspired by all of the indie authors I had read in my leisure time and my ambition to make my own stories better. I originally started with audio narration, but I wanted to put my stories into words so that they could be perfected.
AuthorsWiki : How do you manage your time to write a book?
Lailo Lema : This definitely isn’t easy as I spend a majority of my time promoting my work. However, I find that it helps if I have a goal in mind of how many pages I would like to write each day. Typically, I aim for three to six a day.
AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method — the one in which you write the most?
Lailo Lema : I’ve developed my own method in which I isolate every fundamental and tackle them one at a time, starting with conflict, then I move to world building and so on. I am a pantser, so I like to have a single goal in mind for the scene. I don’t know what will unfold in the story until it happens. Most of the story comes together in the editing process towards the end.
AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing, and how did your interest in writing begin?
Lailo Lema : I started writing when I was a little girl. I would journal my thoughts and make little diary entries of drama with my crushes at school. I would write songs and poems. When I became an adult, I was interested in audio stories and I realized how mych better they’d be if I spent more editorial work on them. Thus, novel writing began.
AuthorsWiki : Is there any special achievement in your life that you would like to share with us and your readers?
Lailo Lema : Something super special was when my audio stories gained over one hundred thousand downloads, month after month. I couldn’t tell you how many listens, but those were just downloads alone. I didn’t expect things to take off like that. It was really cool.
AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?
Lailo Lema : I am working on a little project titled, Sick Punt. This will be my debut novel and I couldn’t be more excited about it. I can’t say too much but there will be living dolls, bully boyfriends, and humiliation rituals.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to give a message to your readers and fans?
Lailo Lema : Never give up. I know it sounds cliche, but if you find something you enjoy doing, it’s important to prioritize that outlet as much as you can. And never stop reading. Daydreams and stories are one of the few free things we have in this world to cheer us up when things go astray.
AuthorsWiki : Every writer has their own ideal. Do you also have an ideal writer? And what are your favorite books that you always want to read?
Lailo Lema : I am a sucker for high intense openings. I love when an author starts the story right in the action. I love descriptive language and almost the kind of tone where it feels as though the character is writing a diary entry. I loved reading Mortis Maledictum by Devin McCamey, Children of Cain by Al Sarrantonio, and Strange Bedfellows by Jasper L’Estrange.
AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies that you enjoy in your free time?
Lailo Lema : I love to go to the park and the movies. I collect plushies and get on the swings. I’m a big kid honestly. I am actually quite the homebody, so I don’t do much outside of my house. I like to relax, snack, and work on my creative projects.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world in the future as well?
Lailo Lema : I have alot more to share in the writing world. I am nowhere near finished yet. I have lots of story ideas sitting in my notes, waiting to be written. So don’t worry, you aren’t getting rid of me yet! Haha.
