AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?

Rodney McNeil : Writing and creative work is what I do full time. I am also in a masters program, Education Technology Leadership. Even if I decide to do some teaching in Higher Education, writing is a major part of the communication process. It is cool to get paid to think. These creative works are the door to more opportunities.

AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about your first book.

Rodney McNeil : Ro’ Man’s Is Dead is my first book. The title is composed of the main characte’s name “Ro”. I wanted it to echo the sentiment of Romance Is Dead. This beautifully scary allegory illustrates the death of the natural love and affection among people. Ro is light advocating for mankind to embody love, joy, peace, kindness, and beauty. However, an opposing and evil force exists to fight against vibrant attributes.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?

Rodney McNeil : Of course, I have four books. Ro’ Man’s Is Dead is my first published book. It is my introduction into the literary world delivering poetic prose with an alarming message. The Candy Academy: Dream Candy my second book was written with my son. I wrote it with the intention to make children interested in reading and imagining again. Who better than a kid to know what kids are interested in? Eye Hate Essays is my third effort, it showcases my portfolio of essays written during my undergrad studies. I scored excellent and received praise from my professors and editors about my wiritng.

I wanted readers to take inspiration from my essays and apply it to their studies. Finally, Analog Introspection (AI): The Experience is my fourth book. It is a mirror to the reader to examine their habits and behavior in a tech driven society. Readers transform into users moving through the algorithm of life with intentional reflection.

AuthorsWiki : Where did you get the inspiration for publishing books?

Rodney McNeil : Since I was a sophomore in high school, I wrote with the intent to be published. Along my journey I dabbled with the idea of being published by a major published house. What I found out was it requires extensive research to get the attention of an editor. Instead, I decided to bet on myself and produce purposeful and quality works. Self-publishing was the way for me to have full control over my product and the process to completion.

AuthorsWiki : How do you manage your time to write a book?

Rodney McNeil : My perspective on writing is like an extended project I completed during my undergrad studies. I do not neglect responsibilities in my life or myself. When I decided to lock in and write, I made sure it was a natural desire. There is no point in forcing yourself to write; you either feel or you do not. I allowed myself at least four hours to write when inspired. When inspiration kicked in it would always spill into the next day, until I completed my creative project.

AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method — the one in which you write the most?

Rodney McNeil : My favorite writing method is creative. It is important to note, I use descriptive and narrative methods in combination with creative writing. Employing poetic language helps me to re-think the way things are expressed. Often, describing characters and their emotions requires descriptive elaboration. This is where the fun takes off! It is still a narrative with hyperbolic or exaggerated expression. I understand the creative method of writing has no limits and it encompasses the other writing methods naturally.

AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing, and how did your interest in writing begin?

Rodney McNeil : I started writing consistently in the 10th grade. I would come home from school during my off season from sports, read the dictionary and write. Three poems a day became a habit and I would wake up on the weekends to write. I became interested in writing several ways: I was an avid reader in elementary and through my entire school year. I had a fascination for story telling, the phrases characters would say, and the implied meanings. I would repeat and come up with my own phrases. Vocal expression also inspired me to write.

The lyrics to songs stood out to me among the music and I was drawn to the word play and message. Once again, I would make up my own songs. Last but not least, life’s experiences inspired me to write. Cloudy day had their own vibes that would bring out some rare thoughts and feelings sunny days would not. I let the elements, textures, and people influence my creative ideas.

AuthorsWiki : Is there any special achievement in your life that you would like to share with us and your readers?

Rodney McNeil : The special achievement I want to share with you all is the act of overcoming doubt continually. Writing books, creating concepts, and pouring out your mind requires confidence. Human nature sometimes says, “no one cares or this is boring.” I have been able to move past self-doubt and create in an exciting manner. Even if this does not seem like much, doubt stops many people from putting their plans into action.

AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?

Rodney McNeil : Yes, I love to write. I do want to explore my creativity in a number of ways. Writing is the focal point of my other creative endeavors. A layered experience is the goal aside from the message of my books. One of my goals is to write an anime as well as do a cartoon series based on the book.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to give a message to your readers and fans?

Rodney McNeil : Your support is needed. As an author our books and creative works need your eyes. Without you we are only writing a journal to ourselves. Your thoughts, critiques, and engagements drive creatives to continue writing. Only open hearts can be impacted but as a creative I have the responsibility to deliver quality, and purpose driven work. I am grateful for each pair of eyes that read my words.

AuthorsWiki : Every writer has their own ideal. Do you also have an ideal writer? And what are your favorite books that you always want to read?

Rodney McNeil : My ideal writer is one who places the reader in the character shoes in every scene. The detail is vivid and the emotional impact is captivating. I read everything at this point in my life, but my favorite books are from my childhood. I can always read Dr. Seuss books, and also books like Where the Wild Things Are. They are children books but the imagination, humor, and worlds the author takes you to is a seamless journey. I’ll reiterate again, I read everything so, I am open to experience new books.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies that you enjoy in your free time?

Rodney McNeil : Aside from writing I love to exercise. Strength training, running, playing golf, shooting pool, and playing uno (lol). I like to compete in a fun way. Being active is essential and therapeutic. Also, I like to watch movies and series of all sorts. Other hobbies, include listening to lo-fi jazz and trying new desserts. I like to learn but in a fun untraditional way.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world in the future as well?

Rodney McNeil : Yes, writing is the focal point of my creative works. I am always writing and it will always be a part of my creative product package. I do not only have books published but articles as well. If I decide to release other products beyond a book, I am going to do the writing on those products too.
