AuthorsWiki : Do you briefly introduce yourself in your own words?

David L. Powell III : My name is David L. Powell III. I’m a writer, filmmaker, and storyteller drawn to the darker edges of truth. My work explores trauma, redemption, and the blurred line between salvation and sin. I don’t write to entertain—I write to expose, to confess, and to confront what most people bury. Blood & Scripture is my debut novel, but it’s far from the last story I plan to tell.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?

David L. Powell III : Apart from writing, I work in operations and marketing, with a strong background in healthcare and solar technology. I’ve also been a screenwriter and development manager, wearing multiple hats to support both my creative work and my family. Everything I do—professionally or artistically—stems from a place of purpose and storytelling.

AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about the your first book?

David L. Powell III : My first book, Blood & Scripture: Memoirs of the Philadelphia Slasher, is a dark, poetic psychological thriller told from the mind of a serial killer who believes he’s saving souls through bloodshed. It reads like a confessional memoir—intimate, raw, and unnerving—blending real-life unsolved murders with fictional trauma, scripture, and survival. It’s not just a story about killing—it’s about what happens when pain becomes religion, and redemption is written in crimson.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?

David L. Powell III : Yes, I’d love to. Blood & Scripture: Memoirs of the Philadelphia Slasher is my first published book, and it’s deeply personal. It’s written like a memoir from the mind of a killer—a man shaped by trauma, silence, and twisted faith. The book blends real unsolved crimes with fictionalized confessions, using poetry, diary entries, scripture, and reflection to pull readers into a dark but honest place.

It’s not a typical crime novel. It’s more of a spiritual autopsy. A story about how pain transforms, how belief can bend, and how a child born in chaos can grow into something terrifying—and tragically human.

AuthorsWiki : Where did you get inspiration for book publishing?

David L. Powell III : The inspiration came from realizing that no one was going to tell this story the way I needed it told—not cleaned up, not watered down, not through someone else’s filter. I wanted full creative control over every word, every chapter, every uncomfortable truth. Self-publishing gave me that freedom. It wasn’t just about putting a book out—it was about preserving the voice, the pain, and the message without compromise. I published Blood & Scripture because the story wouldn’t let me stay silent.

AuthorsWiki : How do you manage time to write a book?

David L. Powell III : I treat writing like survival—because for me, it is. I don’t wait for perfect conditions or endless hours. I carve out time in the chaos. Early mornings, late nights, in between work, parenting, and life’s noise—I make space for the story. Sometimes it’s 10 minutes, sometimes an hour, but I show up consistently. Writing a book isn’t about having time—it’s about making it. Prioritizing the truth that needs to be told, even when everything else is demanding your attention.

AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method, in which you do the most writing?

David L. Powell III : My favorite method is writing by instinct—late at night, alone, when the world is quiet and my thoughts are the loudest. I don’t outline in detail. I let scenes play in my mind like film reels until the emotion is strong enough to pour onto the page. Most of my writing starts with a voice, a sentence, or a single image—and I follow that thread until it unravels into something real. It’s less about structure at first, and more about surrendering to the story.

AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing and how did your interest in writing begin?

David L. Powell III : I started writing as a kid—before I even realized I was writing. It began with scribbled poems, movie ideas, and short stories I never showed anyone. Writing became my way of processing everything I didn’t know how to say out loud. I grew up surrounded by chaos, and storytelling gave me control. It was a safe place to put the pain, the questions, and the rage. Over time, it stopped being a hobby and became a calling. Writing didn’t just interest me—it saved me.

AuthorsWiki : Special achievement in your life, which you would like to share with us and your readers too?

David L. Powell III : One special achievement I’m proud of is being featured in the Philadelphia news for my debut film Relasume. It was a surreal moment—seeing my work recognized in the same city that shaped so much of my storytelling voice. That project proved to me that stories born in pain and purpose can break through. It gave me the confidence to keep creating, to keep pushing boundaries, and eventually led to the birth of Blood & Scripture.

AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?

David L. Powell III : Absolutely. I’m currently working on the sequel to Blood & Scripture, which will dive even deeper into the mind, mythology, and meaning behind the first book—while introducing a new layer of darkness. I also have other projects in development, each exploring themes like trauma, belief, and identity through a psychological and poetic lens. Writing isn’t just something I’ve done—it’s something I’ll keep doing. The stories haven’t stopped, and neither will I.

AuthorsWiki : Want to give a message to your readers and fans?

David L. Powell III : Thank you—for reading, for feeling, for not looking away. Blood & Scripture is more than just a book; it’s a confession wrapped in fiction, and every time someone connects with it, I’m reminded that even the darkest stories can spark understanding. To anyone who’s ever felt unseen, unheard, or haunted by their own history—this was written for you. Stay brave. Stay curious. And never be afraid to face the shadows—sometimes that’s where the truth lives.

AuthorsWiki : Every writer has his own Ideal, do you also have an Ideal writer? And your favorite books that you will always want to read?

David L. Powell III : Absolutely. One of my biggest inspirations is James Baldwin. His ability to dissect pain with elegance, and speak truth with both fire and grace, shaped the way I approach storytelling. I also draw a lot from writers like Cormac McCarthy for his brutal lyricism, and Toni Morrison for the way she weaves history, trauma, and beauty into every sentence.

As for favorite books—I’ll always return to The Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Bible (for its contradictions and poetry), and Beloved by Toni Morrison. These books don’t just tell stories—they challenge your soul.

AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies, which you like to do in your free time?

David L. Powell III : When I’m not writing, I’m usually creating in other forms—filmmaking, storyboarding, or designing visuals that bring my ideas to life. I also enjoy reading true crime, studying unsolved cases, and diving into documentaries that explore psychology, faith, or history. Music plays a big role in my creative process too—I build playlists for every project I work on. And when I really need to reset, I spend time with my kids, take long drives, or just sit in silence and let the next story come to me.

AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world even in future?

David L. Powell III : Without a doubt. Writing isn’t just something I do—it’s who I am. Whether it’s books, scripts, poetry, or confessions carved into fiction, I’ll always find a way to put stories into the world. As long as there are truths to confront, wounds to unpack, and voices that feel unheard, I’ll keep writing. The form may evolve, but the mission stays the same.
