AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what is your occupation for livelihood?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I am a manager of a holiday accommodation in South Africa.
AuthorsWiki : Tell us something about your first book.
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : My first book is called The New Kingdom: Jabari, a story about an ex-soldier who sets out to look for his kidnapped mother in Africa and uncovers a whole new world. He is forced to choose between his new life in this kingdom or to side with the people he loves.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to tell us about your published books?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : My other published book is called 7 Days, a diary I kept when I was suicidal and have given myself seven days to live.
AuthorsWiki : Where did you get the inspiration for publishing books?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I have always wanted to write books but was inspired by the events of my own life as well as news stories that I see on a daily basis. I wanted to blend that knowledge with African culture to create worlds that other people can get absorbed in.
AuthorsWiki : How do you manage your time to write a book?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I call 18:00 my writing time. That is when I lay aside everything else and just focus on the book I am writing at that moment.
AuthorsWiki : What is your favorite writing method — the one in which you write the most?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I prefer to write the first draft free-hand. I just want to see what comes out of my head when there is no pressure or deadline. That first copy is what I try to improve on and use as a foundation for my books.
AuthorsWiki : When did you start writing, and how did your interest in writing begin?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I began writing when I was eighteen years old. It was an article about Oprah and Nate Berkus. The assignment was sent out and I grabbed it. That is when I realized that I had a knack for writing. I began writing articles for a living and eventually graduated to writing books.
AuthorsWiki : Is there any special achievement in your life that you would like to share with us and your readers?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I received my first publishing contract when I was twenty-three years old. It was for an African cookbook named Zozo and I’ve been in the publishing world ever since.
AuthorsWiki : Are you planning to write or publish a book in the present or future?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I’m proud to have published my latest book The New Kingdom: Jabari and I plan on writing and publishing its sequels in the near future.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to give a message to your readers and fans?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : It’s vital not to give up on your dreams no matter how long they seem to take to materialize. Slow down and work your plan from start to finish and you will see the results of your hard work eventually.
AuthorsWiki : Every writer has their own ideal. Do you also have an ideal writer? And what are your favorite books that you always want to read?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I am an avid fan of James Patterson. I can’t even remember how many books of his I have read. I loved the whole Alex Cross series and if he puts out more of his books in the future, I will be the first to buy a copy. I really admire his short and punchy writing. It’s exciting.
AuthorsWiki : Apart from writing, what are your other hobbies that you enjoy in your free time?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I really enjoy journaling. It helps to organize my thoughts and feelings and gives me the space to explore anything that might help me write better.
AuthorsWiki : Would you like to remain in the writing world in the future as well?
Mpho Masechaba Nkadimeng : I’ve been writing my entire adult life and I am not about to quit anytime soon. I look forward to being an author of multiple books.
